Support
Email support@skrim.app and a person will read it.
If your bookmarks are missing right now, start with the first section below rather than the email — nothing was deleted, and you can have them back in about a minute without waiting on a reply.
My bookmarks are missing
Nothing was deleted. While the bar is hidden, every bookmark that was on it is moved into a folder inside Other bookmarks whose name begins “hidden while screen sharing”. They are in your browser right now, whether or not Skrim is still installed.
- With Skrim installed: open it from the toolbar. It finds that folder, reads the receipt inside it, and puts every bookmark back in the position it came from — then removes the folder and any placeholder links.
- Without it: the restore page walks through putting them back by hand from Chrome's bookmark manager. That page works with Skrim uninstalled, disabled or broken.
The bar did not hide when I shared my screen
Skrim takes the bar down when something in Chrome asks Chrome for your screen. The usual reason nothing happened is that the share never went through Chrome at all.
What it does not cover
- Desktop apps. The Zoom desktop client, the Loom desktop app, OBS and QuickTime capture outside Chrome entirely, where no extension can see them.
- Chrome's own share picker preview. On a site that asks for your screen the instant it loads, the thumbnail Chrome draws inside the picker can still show the bar for a moment. Google Meet and Zoom on the web both preview clean, but it is a limit of the picker, not something an extension can reach.
- Anything other than the bookmarks bar. Not your tabs, not your notifications, not your desktop. One bar is the whole job.
Two things worth confirming on your own machine: Skrim needs Chrome 116
or later, and it has to be enabled. Open chrome://extensions
and check the toggle.
My other computer's bookmarks went empty too
The setting for this is Tuck the bar into a folder, under Settings & backup in the popup. With it on, hiding parks the bar inside a single folder that stays where it is instead of clearing it, so your other signed-in computers keep their bookmarks.
What the settings do
- Placeholder links. Leaves a few neutral bookmarks on the bar while it is hidden. A bar that goes suddenly empty is its own giveaway.
- Tuck the bar into a folder. Parks the bar in one folder instead of clearing it, and lets you name the folder. This is the sync answer above.
- Back up your bookmarks. Copy as text puts the list on your clipboard for a note or a message. Download / import… opens a page that writes a file you keep, and reads one back in.
Both switches also apply to a hide that is already running — flip one mid-share and the popup tells you what it just changed.
Reporting a bug
Email support@skrim.app with:
- Your Chrome version (from
chrome://version) and your operating system. - What was sharing — Google Meet, Zoom in a tab, a recorder, something else.
- What the Skrim popup said at the time, if you got a look at it.
A screenshot helps, but not one of a bookmarks bar carrying anything you would not want seen. Describe it instead.
What Skrim knows about you
Nothing. The extension makes no network requests of any kind — no server, no account, no analytics — which also means there is no telemetry for anyone to look at when you write in. That is why the bug report above asks for so much detail. The privacy policy is the long version.
